Archbishop Sergius of Prague (1881-1952)

Source: Bishop Alexander Mileant By Archbishop Sergius of Prague Archbishop Sergius (Korolev) of Prague (1881-1952) was born in Moscow, but spent the defining years of his life (1922-1946) in Prague where he unified the Russian émigré community and courageously served daily molebens throughout the German occupation. Tending Time in Lent

By Nicole Roccas As I prepared for my first confession some years ago, I was given a rubric that I still follow. It asks me to reflect on how I've sinned against myself, others, and God. If nothing comes to mind, I'm directed to consider the ways I’ve fallen short of the ten commandments, the beatitudes, the virtues enumerated in the Prayer of St. Ephrem, etc. As … [Read more...] about Tending Time in Lent

The Vision of Another City

Another City. But what is this other city? The Other City is Jerusalem, the Holy City standing on Mt Zion high above the pagan cities of the Ancient World. Yet it is also the obscure, outlying village of Bethlehem, in which Christ Himself was born. It is Constantinople, the New Rome, and it is the Desert City of the monks, set up spontaneously as a spiritual alternative to the imperial city. It is the Heavenly City, which stands as a beacon to present-day civilization, and ultimately it is the New Jerusalem, for which we yearn and toward which we strive.
