What is Orthodox the Orthodox Church? A Two Minute Crash Course [VIDEO]

March 19, 2019 / Fr. Andrew Damick

What is the Orthodox Church by Fr. Andrew Damick

Source: Russian Faith As someone who grew up the son of Evangelicals, Fr. Andrew has firsthand experience with discovering the Orthodox faith--and his excitement about it comes shining through in whenever he speaks.  Damick is a great speaker and apologist, famous for his blog, his podcast, and his book Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy, which we highly … [Read more...] about What is Orthodox the Orthodox Church? What is the Difference Between Orthodoxy and the Western Confessions?

December 1, 2018 / Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky)

Orthodox Church

The irreducible difference between Orthodox Christianity and the Western Confessions (Roman Catholicism and Protestantism) writes Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) is that the former understands Christianity first as ascetic effort and the latter perceives it as moral perfection. The differences are grounded in conflicting views of Christ's atoning work. Where Orthodoxy … [Read more...] about What is the Difference Between Orthodoxy and the Western Confessions?

Holy Tradition is a Living Voice of Revelation: An Interview with Elder Cleopa of Romania

November 7, 2018 / Elder Cleopa of Romania

Elder Cleopa (right) Tending Sheep

God speaks to man writes Elder Cleopa and His living voice is the means of His self-revelation to man. God’s word was first passed on orally and constitutes what we call Holy Tradition and only later was written as scripture, both Old and New Testaments. Holy Tradition then constitutes more than the written word of scripture. This does not weaken the authority of … [Read more...] about Holy Tradition is a Living Voice of Revelation: An Interview with Elder Cleopa of Romania

Toll Houses: After Death Reality or Heresy?

August 22, 2018 / Fr. Thomas Hopko

In this interview with Kevin Allen, now newly reposed, Fr. Thomas Hopko offers a balanced and insightful discussion of the doctrine of the aerial tollhouses that the Church has traditionally taught we will encounter after our death. The toll houses have been the theme of recent debates so often assuming extreme positions that some have become skeptical of the issue altogether, … [Read more...] about Toll Houses: After Death Reality or Heresy?

What is Prelest?

August 4, 2018 / Alexei Osipov

What is Prelest?

Prelest (in Greek, “plani”) is the spiritual correlate of high blood pressure: its progression is slow and silent, and it often goes unnoticed until it reaches a deadly stage. From our friends at Orthochristian.com, here are two articles on prelest (or spiritual delusion) that discuss both its dangers and preventatives against it. The Vision of Another City

Another City. But what is this other city? The Other City is Jerusalem, the Holy City standing on Mt Zion high above the pagan cities of the Ancient World. Yet it is also the obscure, outlying village of Bethlehem, in which Christ Himself was born. It is Constantinople, the New Rome, and it is the Desert City of the monks, set up spontaneously as a spiritual alternative to the imperial city. It is the Heavenly City, which stands as a beacon to present-day civilization, and ultimately it is the New Jerusalem, for which we yearn and toward which we strive.
